Azadeh Mohammadi pursues her favourite theme: meeting of different artistic cultures. Seamlessly fusing Shakespeare’s blank verse with Persian folk storytelling, she manages to both tell the story of Troilus and Cressida and to tell her own personal view of people confronted by a war. The minimalist treatment, with only three characters of the traditional figures of the storytelling, the Master, the Narrator and Black, makes a crisp cast for her production.

It’s more than seventy years there was a major armed conflict in Europe (if we don’t speak about the one in former Yugoslavia). Azadeh lived through the Iran-Iraq war, and her personal experience affects the way she interprets this Shakespeare production.
